La Classique de bienfaisance de la Fondation AGAT bat des records en recueillant $691 000 $ pour la Fondation du cancer de l'Alberta

CALGARY, Jan. 4, 2024 — Following the 17th annual AGAT Foundation Charity Classic golf tournament held in Kananaskis, Alta. at the Kananaskis Country Golf Course on Aug. 23, 2023, the AGAT Foundation, in partnership with many community members and sponsors, has raised $691,741.95 in support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF).

The money raised will go towards funding the ACF’s Patient Financial Assistance Program, which provides $1.5 million annually to Albertans and their families facing financial challenges from a cancer diagnosis.

“One in two Albertans will hear the words ‘you have cancer’, in their lifetime,” says Megan Thomson, Director of Philanthropy, Alberta Cancer Foundation. “But also not everyone who hears those words lives close to where they have to receive their treatment. Even if you do, cancer’s expensive. Oftentimes people have to stop working, there’s increased expenses.

“The Patient Financial Assistance Program is there as that bridge, as that support, so patients don’t have to choose between basic life necessities and their cancer treatment.”

In 2022, the Patient Financial Assistance Program supported over 630 individuals and families in 135 communities across Alberta.

“The reach and impact of this program is absolutely amazing,” says Thomson. “It’s felt far and wide. On behalf of the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the patients and their families that we get to represent, we just wanted to say thank you.”

With a 20-year history and the amalgamation of two prominent events — Golf for a Cure and the Don LaBerge Memorial Golf Classic — since 2022, the AGAT Foundation Charity Classic has been a leading fundraiser for the Alberta Cancer Foundations’ Patient Financial Assistance Program.

“It can’t be done without our donors. We’re incredibly lucky we’ve had so many individuals rise to the occasion in very big ways,” said Marissa Reckmann, CEO, AGAT Laboratories and Director, AGAT Foundation. “We also want to remind any individual that there’s no set level of giving or involvement in the tournament.

“We welcome anything that you can bring to the table because everything makes such a difference.”
