AGAT Foundation Charity Classic Raises $850,000 for Alberta Cancer Foundation; Funds Alberta Patient Financial Assistance Program

CALGARY, Jan. 17, 2025 — Following a successful Charity Classic golf tournament on August 21, 2024, donations have been tallied and the AGAT Foundation is pleased to announce an exact total of $851,111 has been raised for the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF).

The money raised will go towards funding the ACF’s Patient Financial Assistance program, which provides $1.5 million annually to Albertans and their families facing financial challenges from a cancer diagnosis.

“We’ve seen so much support from Albertans,” said Marissa Reckmann, CEO, AGAT Laboratories and Director, AGAT Foundation. “The AGAT Foundation is there to support, but that is a representation of our donors, our sponsors, our registrants, our participants, so many individuals.

“This year was a little bit different. It was a little more extraordinary. Because we started the year off with a matching campaign for World Cancer Day, we’ve had an exceptional growth in the amount of money we’ve been able to raise.”

Previously, $1 million was allocated towards the ACF’s Patient Financial Assistance program. But due to the support of the AGAT Foundation, the Charity Classic, and Albertan donors and sponsors, this is the second year the program has managed to increase the budget by 50% to $1.5 million.

“As everyone knows, inflation, budgets, everything’s a little bit harder, more expensive, everyone’s feeling it,” said Megan Thomson, Director of Philanthropy, Alberta Cancer Foundation. “So being able to increase that was unbelievable. It’s just such an important program.”

The partnership between the AGAT Foundation and the ACF has been long-lasting, primarily driven through the Charity Classic golf tournament. The partnership will continue in the summer of 2025 as part of the 19th annual AGAT Foundation Charity Classic.

Taking place on August 21, 2025, the Priddis Greens Charity Classic and the AGAT Foundation Charity Classic will become the AGAT Priddis Greens Charity Classic. Hosted at the Priddis Greens Golf & Country Club in Priddis, Alta., the event will fundraise in support of Alberta Cancer Foundation, Prostate Cancer Centre, and other cancer support charities and initiatives.

“This year, we hope that it’s going to be even bigger,” said Reckmann. “We have some big goals in mind, and we know you, as Albertans, with those big open hearts of yours, are going to be there along for the ride.”
