Dogs with Jobs: In an AGAT First, Company Sponsors Calgary Fire Dept. K9

CALGARY, Nov. 14, 2025 — You’ve heard of sponsorships and partnerships. But this partnership is far from ordinary. Starting this November, AGAT Laboratories is the leading sponsor of a Calgary Fire Department canine called Titus.

At a press event on Nov. 6, 2025, wearing a vest emblazoned with the Calgary Fire Department shield, Titus sports another logo. It’s that of Calgary analytical laboratory, AGAT Labs.

“We really wanted to do something that got involved in the community itself,” said Marissa Reckmann, CEO at AGAT Laboratories. “We grew out of the energy industry here locally in Calgary, so the community is important to us and it just felt like a very strong project for us.”

As part of the partnership, AGAT provides funding to cover Titus’ food, training, veterinary care, and operational needs. Known as an ignitable liquid or accelerant detection canine, dogs like Titus are assets to fire investigations as they can detect possible fire causes in record time.

In Titus’ case, his job supporting Calgary Fire Dept. Investigator, Brad Brookes, comes at no cost to the taxpayer, fully funded by AGAT.

It’s a strategic partnership tying back to the work AGAT does in communities across Canada.

“We do ignitable liquid residue analysis, which helps us assist the Calgary Fire Department in determining what those ignitable liquid residues are,” says Desiree Hui, Director of Specialty Chemistry, AGAT Laboratories. “Our work in forensics, arson investigations is actually so rewarding. We’re able to help the community by identifying where these fires started.”

Building upon a relationship that goes back decades with the Calgary Fire Dept., this is AGAT’s latest partnership to support Canadians with the power of analytical science.

“Our purpose is Service Beyond Analysis,” says Reckmann. “And for us, that means that we’re here to serve our people, our clients, and our communities.”

This partnership strengthens fire investigations and community safety — reflecting AGAT’s ongoing commitment to the communities they operate in.
